I say f what other ppl *might* think, Greymark is too cool not to keep

I like the name Greymark a lot and honestly don’t see too much of an issue with the US/UK version of the word. I feel like it’s super, super common to spell it either way that it wouldn’t cause too much of a stink (on top of it just generally sounding better as well)

This is really reassuring, thank you so much! I definitely like Greymark the best so I think I'm just going to say "hang it" and go with it!

I would have never had a second thought on the spelling. Is Whitemark too on the nose for the snow? Or possibly an interesting contrast to fire court. So maybe Grey it is 🤣

Keep greymark

I like it

And if people have a problem with it they just shouldn’t read the book

I need to really keep this in mind hahaha, I get so many comments on TikTok like "this would be better if you changed your characters' genders/hair colours/attitudes/sexuality/etc" and I have to keep reminding myself that it's my book and people can just not read it if they don't like my choices!

Firstly I somehow was under this idea she was from the Earth Court (I was low key proud as I've claimed that court as my own ☺️) Second, I already know she's going to be infuriating due to her decision making skills, cause that usually leads to issues that could so easily be avoided (excited to see how that plays out and what her character learns/or not from it throughout the story tho) and lastly don't you dare chance Greymark as her surname. It's too epic! I'm loving everything about this.

Oh no, I'm sorry to disappoint you – if it's any consolation, there's another character from the Earth Court who I'm hoping you're going to like too! Indecisiveness/impulsivity are definitely such helpful traits to give a character as a writer haha, it's such a good way to propel a plot forwards.

So glad you like Greymark too! That seems to be the consensus, so I'm sticking with it!

Question! In the beginning you said Enna was indecisive, then half way down called her impulsive - I’m a little confused on how she can be both? As I believe they’re mutually exclusive...

She seems more indecisive out of the two, to me, based on the examples you gave of her in a martial scenario... Was impulsive mentioned so that it could explain why she’d suddenly go on the grand adventure of The Plot?

Good catch! It’s actually a trait I’ve shamelessly given her because I’m also both 😂 So she’ll agonise for ages over both inconsequential and major decisions, like whether she wants toast or eggs for breakfast / whether she should follow her older sister up a cliff face, but then she’ll also make split-second decisions in certain situations like drinking a fourth glass of mead she really doesn’t need or jumping off a wall that’s much too high. I’ve found that it is definitely possible to be both depending on context and emotion day-to-day, so it’s something I wanted to explore through her too.

Thanks for discussing it with me, these kinds of questions really help me unpick her even further and cement her motivations even better!

Of course! Having both traits will definitely add an interesting dynamic to her as person - truthfully she’s as complex as a real person & those always make for the best characters ☺️ I’m looking forward to getting to know her better
